I've always been a bit bothered by the concept of inanimate object swaps. Though I hold no ill will toward people who like inanimate swap stories, I don't think it makes sense for a person to swap minds with an object that doesn't have a mind. (I mean, if a person's soul gets stuck in a doll or something, okay, but don't try to tell me the "doll's soul" is in the person's body.) The follow-up was my attempt to poke a little fun at inanimate swaps, and to rationalize the concept for myself.
If you wanted to rationalize inanimate object swaps, I guess another view you could take is an animist or panpsychist one, where every object already has a consciousness (even if it's just a simple one) that humans may not be able to perceive.
Well, this is a weird one, but I can't lie that it is strangely alluring. It also opens up so many questions on what is alive and what isn't, as if a vagina can have a soul, does that mean every other body part also has one? Maybe I'm overthinking, and just think of it as an exception to the rule.
